UPDATE: No solution in sight yet. The damaged section has not yet been rebuilt due to the level of water.

Flooding has burst the embankment of Koshi River, some 12 kilometers north of the Koshi Barrage and damaged a section of the Mahendra Highway in Sunsari.

This will affect the travelers using the Mahendra Highway from Sunsari or Eastwards like Biratnagar and Jhapa. We advise people traveling from those sections to use air service to travel to Kathmandu.

The newly elected Prime Minister of Nepal, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has been sworn in to his office by the President, Dr Ram Baran Yadav amidst a function today. He was elected to the post of the Prime Minister on Friday.

The Prime Minister is the leader of former rebels, Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) which waged more than a  decade long insurgency against the state that has claimed more than 13,000 lives.

This is a good news for the economy and tourism. The former rebels were at time acting unruly in the cities and the rural parts of the country. They are now expected to be more responsible in their behaviour. This should also mean an end to the donations that they were collecting even after coming into the peace process. This also provides more needed political stability and a strong government at the center.

UPDATE: The strike has been called off from Saturday, August 16.

Transportation in the four eastern zones of Nepal has come to a halt due to a strike by the transportation workers. They are protesting the death of a bus driver by armed robbers.

This strike will affect travelers on the section from Kakarbhitta to Janakpur on the Mahendra Highway. The strike also affects the bus transportation on the hilly areas in that section.

However, air service is not affected by the strike. We advise travelers to use the air service to travel to other parts of the country.

We will keep you updated about the progress, or the lack of progress, in resolving the strike.

Monsoon in full swing.

August 5th, 2008

At this time of the year, there is rain and there is sun. Repeats over and over all day and night. From June till Late August.

If you like rain, and sun , this is your season to travel to Nepal.

Everywhere around, there is greenery and the weather is warm in most parts of the country. Terai is still hot !

This might be a good time for travelers who want to avoid other travelers (who normally come in droves- around September)
