Nepal Rastra Bank, the central bank, publishes the exchange rates for a select number of foreign currencies. Indian rupee is pegged with the Nepalese rupee at Indian Rupees 100 to Nepalese Rupees 160. The Indian currency is widely used in Nepal as a medium of exchange.

You can exchange the US dollar, Australian dollar, Canadian dollar, Singapore dollar, Euro, Pound Sterling, Swiss Franc, Chinese Yuan, Saudi Arabian Riyal, Qatar Riyal, Thai Bhat, UAE Dirham, Malaysian Ringgit and Japanese Yen to Nepalese currency and vice versa.

If you have any of these currencies- Swedish kroner, Danish Kroner or Hong Kong Dollar - you can only change those currencies to Nepalese currency.

However, US dollar, Euro, Pound Sterling and the Indian Rupees are the major currencies that are accepted everywhere in the country. Please do not carry the Indian notes with denominations of 500 and 1000 as it is illegal to be in possession of them due to forgeries.

Please use our currency converter to find out the exchanges rates of the foreign currencies with respect to the Nepalese currency.
