What is Holi?

Holi is a festival of colors. Celebrated on the full moon day of Phagun (February or March), it is Nepal’s version of a springtime water festival. It is celebrated for a week in the Kathmandu Durbar Square by erecting a pole which is pulled down and burnt on the day of Holi. The main day of Holi is marked by throwing water filled balloons and colored powder at each other. In Terai, it is marked a day after the celebrations take place in the hills. This festival commemorates a myth in which God Krishna, when still a boy, killed the demoness Holika.

Please refer to ExoticBuddha Calendar for exact festival date.
