When are the Nepalese festivals celebrated?

As most of the festival dates are governed by the lunar calendar, dates vary from year to year, and determining them more than a year in advance is quite difficult. Moreover, Newars and people in the Himalayan region follow their own separate calendars.
The festival season starts from around mid July. Dasain is celebrated in September or October, Tihar and Chhath are celebrated in October or November and Losar is celebrated in the beginning of January.
Shivaratri, Holi and Seto Machhendranath Jatra are celebrated in March or April. Rato Machhendranath Jatra and Buddha Purnima are celebrated in April or May.
Please refer to the ExoticBuddha Calendar for the exact dates of all the Nepalese festivals.
