The Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve, located in the eastern part of Nepal, comprises of grass lands which are often flooded during the monsoon. Thus the monsoons aren’t a great time to visit.  Around 250 species of birds are found in the 175 square kilometers area of the reserve. It is an important area for the birds migrating from Siberia during the winter.

You can reach there on a bus from Kathmandu in about 13 hours. It is near Itahari, the headquarters of Sunsari district.
