Can I ask for a helicopter rescue?

Yes, you could request for a helicopter rescue through Himalayan Rescue Association (Phone: 977 1 4440292 / 4440293), police, national parks, army or airport’s radio system. The cost of the helicopter rescue has to be paid in advance which is around US$ 3,000. If you are trekking independently, register with your embassy, consulate and they will do this for you. If you are in an organized trip, the agency will arrange for it.
It is important to have a rescue insurance that covers a helicopter evacuation or a chartered flight from a remote airstrip. Also make sure your travel insurance policy has mountaineering or alpinism so that it is easier to claim your insurance later on.
