Where do I exchange money in Nepalese currency?

There are exchange counters at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. There are official money changing facilities in large towns like Kathmandu and Pokhara and you will also find this service in various border crossings. There will be a number of private banks willing to exchange foreign currency. For official exchange of money, you will need to show your passport and you are issued with a foreign exchange encashment receipt showing your identity and the amount of hard currency you have exchanged. Keep the receipt with you as this will enable you to exchange excess rupees back into hard currency at banks.
Your hotel might convert the currencies to Nepali rupees if you ask them to do so.
To know the official exchange rates pulished by Nepal Rastra Bank, use our Currency Converter. The rates you will be quoted for exchange will be slightly less that these rates.
