Patan, also known as Lalitpur, is the third largest city of Nepal after Kathmandu and Pokhara. Patan is a sub metropolitan city which is located in the south western part of the Kathmandu valley. The total land area of Patan is 4.59 square kilometers. The official name of the Patan sub metropolitan city is Lalitpur. Patan is also referred to as ‘Yala’. It is said that King Yalamber Malla, one of the Malla rulers of Patan, named this city after himself. The telephone area code number of Patan is 01.
