Accommodation at Machan Wildlife Resort is offered in timber-framed bungalows having private bathrooms and modern toilet amenities. Lighting is done by kerosene lanterns which are placed outside the rooms at sunset. Activities like nature walks, bird watching and canoeing can be arranged. The bar offers a wide variety of imported and local liquors, beers, soft drinks and exotic cocktails.

Ten places and monuments of Nepal are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. In Kathmandu valley, there are seven monuments listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. They are Kathmandu Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, the stupas of Swayambhunath and Bodhnath (Boudhanath), and the temples of Pashupatinath and Changu Narayan.

Outside the Kathmandu valley, Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha, is listed as a World Heritage Site. All these sites, within and outside the Kathmandu valley, are listed as cultural heritages.

Sagarmatha (Everest) National Park and Chitwan National Park are listed as natural World Heritage Sites.

Chitwan National Park in central terai offers elephant rides and jeep safaris to spot the Royal Bengal Tiger and the one horned rhinoceros. Lumbini , in the western terai, is the birthplace of Lord Buddha and contains heritages like the Mayadevi Temple and the Ashoka Pillar. Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve, in eastern Nepal offers bird watching and dolphin spotting on the Koshi River which flows through the reserve. Janakpur, also in eastern terai is the birthplace of Sita, Rama’s wife (from Ramayana) and houses the Ram Janaki Temple. Bardia National Park in the far western Nepal is also popular for tigers, one horned rhinoceros and rafting in the Karnali River.

The National Park Visitor Center in Sauraha has displays on wildlife and an office in which you can book elephant rides. You can also see elephants from the elephant breeding center bathing nearby during lunchtime. The office opens from 7 am to 6:30 pm.

The National Park Headquarters (phone 056- 521932) is inside the park at Kasara. It is about 13 kilometers west of Sauraha on the south bank of Rapti River. It has a small visitor center, which displays wildlife and a gharial-breeding project. The office opens from 7 am to 6.30 pm.

You can stay inside the Chitwan National Park or in Sauraha. The lodges inside the park are pretty expensive. Sauraha offers a wider range of accommodation , the costs ranging from $2 to $50. Although lodges inside the park are more luxurious, there is not much difference between the two when it comes to observing wildlife.

You should not forget to bring insect repellent and a pair of binoculars.
